Prof. Dr. Stephan Porombka is a Germanist and literary scholar with a focus on new media and the literature industry, a hypertext expert, slammer, cultural journalist, and project initiator. As an experimental cultural scientist and productive observer of the present, he is particularly interested in forms and formats of the ‘next’. From 1996 to 2003, he was a member of staff and an assistant at the Humboldt University of Berlin and at the Free University in Berlin. In 2003, he became junior professor of Literary Studies and Cultural Journalism at the University of Hildesheim, where in 2017 he was appointed as a full university professor and for four years was Vice-President of University Teaching and Research. In Hildesheim, Porombka set up a university-wide quality management system and also co-developed and headed the ‘Creative Writing and Cultural Journalism’ and ‘Literary Writing’ degree programmes. Since then, his work has centred on transforming concepts of literary, essayistic, and journalist productivity and creativity with respect to the conditions presented by the new text and writing cultures. Since 2013, he has been pursuing this goal in the framework of a professorship for Textual Theory and Text Design at the Berlin University of the Arts. In addition, Porombka is an active author and since January 2015, he has been a columnist for the weekly journal Die Zeit. Furthermore, he fascinates more than 15,000 followers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat with his trenchant social media reflections.
