Portugal: Right and Wrong Ways out of the Crises

 

Dr. Elisa Ferreira

Dr. Elisa Ferreira was born in Porto in 1955. She earned her PhD from the University of Reading in 1985. Since 1977, she has been a senior lecturer at the University of Porto’s Faculty of Economics.

From 1995 to 1999, she served as Portugal’s Minister of Environment, from 1999 to 2002 as Minister for Planning, both in the governments of Prime Minister António Guterres. She was a member of the Portuguese parliament from 2002 to 2004.

Ferreira has been a Member of the European Parliament for the Portuguese Partido Socialista since 2004. She has also been serving as a member of several committees, such as the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON), the Special Committee on Tax Rulings and Other Measures Similar in Nature or Effect (TAXE), and the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO). She is an effective member of the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly and a substitute member of the delegations to the EU-Chile and the EU-Russia Joint Parliamentary Cooperation Committees.
