Aris Fioretos is a Swedish writer with Greek and Austrian parents. After studies in Stockholm, Paris, and at Yale University, today he is professor of aesthetics in Stockholm. He lives and works in Stockholm and Berlin. Since his debut in 1991 he has written a number of essays and books. His most recent title was the much acclaimed novel Mary (2015), that will be published in German in the autumn of 2016. His latest books in German are the novel Der letzte Grieche (2011), Die halbe Sonne (2013), as well as, together with Durs Grünbein, Verabredungen (2013), a volume of conversations with both authors. Among others, Fioretos has translated seven novels by Vladimir Nabokov, poems of Friedrich Hölderlin and aphorisms by Walter Serner into Swedish. He has received numerous prizes and awards, as the literature prize of the SWR ‘List of the Best’, the Kellgren Prize of the Swedish Academy (both in 2011), as well as the Grand Prize of the Samfundet De Nio (2013).
