Strategies Of “Re-culturing”: New Networks Worldwide

Inhalt

Initiatives of a new kind are emerging around the globe. These initiatives respond to deficits and crises by activating the critical, communicative, civilising potentials of culture. In their individual approaches, they combine creativity with various sectors such as art, education, human rights, tourism, nature and cultural conservation, agriculture, and crafts. This way, they share an understanding of culture which is rather inclusive than exclusive, rather active than passive, and even combines social participation with value creation.

To name a few examples:

  • Banglanatak (India): www.banglanatak.com
  • Barefoot College (India): www.barefootcollege.org
  • Minwashin (Canada): www.minwashin.org
  • Norlha Textiles (China): www.norlha.com
  • Origem Comum (Portugal): www.origemcomum.com
  • Peng! Collective (Germany): https://www.pen.gg/de

The seminar is planned in several stages:

  • Input by the lecturer and discussion
  • Examination and analysis of existing networks
  • Exchange with networkers through video conferencing
  • Development of own concepts

Students are expected to research and analyse an existing cultural network and, optionally, to outline (individually or as a group work) a new cultural network.
