It is clear that urban development has a major role in the success or failure of sustainable development. However, it is less clear which processes influence sustainable urban development exactly and how they do it.

In this course we will take a multi-level perspective on sustainability transformations and explore the ecological, economic, cultural, social and political dimensions of urban development using case studies and the circles of sustainability approach to identify crucial points for success or failure.
